Vasyl Krychun is the originator and author of the StemJSON specification and the inventor of the declarative concepts embodied in it.
1. Specification License
The StemJSON specification documents (all files in the spec/ directory) are made available under the Open Web Foundation Agreement Version 1.0 ("OWFa 1.0"), subject to the additional attribution requirement set out below in Section 1.5.
You can review the OWFa 1.0 at openwebfoundation.org ↗.
Under the OWFa 1.0, the specification author grants any implementer a royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable copyright licence and a royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable patent licence (limited to Necessary Claims as defined in the OWFa 1.0), subject to the terms of the OWFa 1.0.
In plain language, this means:
1.1 You MAY freely implement the StemJSON specification in any programming language, on any platform, for any purpose (commercial or non-commercial).
1.2 You MAY create parsers, validators, renderers, code generators, editors, and any other tooling that reads, writes, or processes StemJSON.
1.3 You MUST retain this copyright notice and this licence in any redistribution of the specification documents.
1.4 The implementation rights in this Section 1 are granted under the OWFa 1.0. The OWFa 1.0 does not grant any trademark rights; see Section 2 and the Trademark Usage Policy.
1.5 Additional attribution requirement. As an additional condition that applies alongside the OWFa 1.0 but does not restrict the core right to implement the specification, you MUST include the following attribution in a reasonably discoverable location within any product or project that implements the StemJSON specification (e.g., documentation, about screen, README, licence file, or third-party notices):
"StemJSON specification created by Vasyl Krychun https://stemjson.com"
If you believe this additional requirement is incompatible with the unmodified OWFa 1.0 terms for a particular jurisdiction or use, the OWFa 1.0 terms prevail to the extent of that incompatibility, and this attribution requirement is deemed severed for that use only.
2. Trademarks
Use of the StemJSON™, StemRuntimeSDK™, StemRuntime™, and StemJSON logo marks is governed by the Trademark Usage Policy. This licence does not grant any rights to use these marks except as required for reasonable and customary descriptive reference to the specification. In particular, you may not claim that your implementation IS StemJSON, is an "official" StemJSON product, or is endorsed or certified by the specification author, except under a separate trademark licence granted in writing.
Trademark Usage Policy: TRADEMARK_POLICY.md ↗.
3. Contributions
By submitting a pull request or other contribution to the specification repository, you grant the specification author a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable (including through multiple tiers) licence, together with a licence under any patent claims you own or control that are necessarily infringed by the contribution, to use, reproduce, modify, prepare derivative works of, distribute, publicly display, and publicly perform the contribution as part of the StemJSON specification and related materials, and to sublicense the same to implementers under the OWFa 1.0 (or any successor open-specification licence that the specification author adopts for this work).
You represent that the contribution is your own original work, or that you have the necessary rights to submit it under the terms above, and that submission of the contribution does not breach any obligation to a third party.
If the specification author asks you to execute a separate Contributor License Agreement (including the OWFa 1.0 Contributor License Agreement), you will do so before your contribution is merged into the normative specification. Absent that separate CLA, the rights granted in this Section 3 are the only rights you grant in the contribution.
4. No Warranty
THE SPECIFICATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE SPECIFICATION AUTHOR DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SPECIFICATION IS FREE OF ERRORS, IS FIT FOR ANY PARTICULAR USE, OR THAT IMPLEMENTING IT WILL NOT INFRINGE ANY THIRD-PARTY RIGHTS.
5. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SPECIFICATION AUTHOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THIS LICENCE OR THE USE OF THE SPECIFICATION, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED BY APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING LIABILITY FOR FRAUD, WILFUL MISCONDUCT, OR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE.
6. Governing Law
This licence is governed by the laws of Spain, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. The OWFa 1.0, where it applies, is governed by its own terms. If the specification author's place of establishment changes (for example, on formation of a corporate licensor or on registration in another jurisdiction), a future version of this licence may designate a different governing law; any such change will apply only from its effective date forward and will not affect rights already granted under this version.
7. Severability
If any provision of this licence is held unenforceable by a court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.
8. Non-Waiver
The specification author's failure to enforce any provision of this licence, or to act on any particular breach, is not a waiver of any future right to enforce that provision or to act on any other breach.
